Month: April 2011

April 24, 2011: Matthew 26:36-46 “Drinking Someone Else’s Cup”

In the first Garden, Adam and Eve, said to God, “Not Your will, but Mine!” In the second garden, Jesus bows before His Father and says, “Not my will, but yours be done.” And then, Jesus stands up and faces his captors; he’s ready to be betrayed. The Father has provided the strength and mind necessary to finish his work. In the Gospel of John, Jesus even rebukes some of the disciples who attempt to stop the mob arrest, and tells them to put their weapons away with these words “Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” (John 18:11).
