March 8, 2012

Dear Church Family,

Historically the season of Lent is a season of repentance and mourning. In more liturgical churches, all the color is removed from the sanctuary, sometimes the lights are dimmed, and often the songs are somber. The entire effect is designed to invite the people of God to long for the Redeemer. Not long for Him to come (for Jesus did already!). Rather, we are invited in this season leading up to Resurrection Sunday to long for the Redeemer to have more our our lives, more of our hearts, more of our moments each and every day. Like Paul, we are to see life as a new opportunity to experience Christ and death as the greatest gain possible for then we will be with our LORD unhindered by sin forever (Phil. 1:21). But today we press on. Today we fight the fight of faith with fresh vigor. Let us press on pursuing Christ and throwing off the sin that so easily entangles (Heb. 12:1-3). Long for Him. Long for Jesus. Long for God. God loves to give good gifts to His children.

Quick Updates: March 1, 2012

Friends,

A few quick updates:

1) Special Offering this Sunday: Please consider supporting the Church Planting wing of the Central District of the Evangelical Free Church of America. We will take a special offering this Sunday March 4 for their ministry endeavor called Operation Mobilization. Operation Mobilization is an effort to launch new church planting ventures and church planting pastors with a strong financial base. Would you consider giving to the advancement of God’s kingdom through this endeavor? More info, see this short video:http://vimeo.com/29840628
2) Free Books: For the next few weeks, I am making available for free a number of books from my personal library. Some are Bible study tools. Some are devotional and prayer guides. Some are books on everything from parenting to theology to Bible study methods and even some text books on history. Check out the book table this Sunday! The books that do not find a new home may be discarded.
3) Pray for your shepherd leaders: The elders will be meeting Friday night and Saturday to pray, study God’s Word, assess our church, and seek God’s face for the future. Please keep us in your prayers at meal time, during your devotions, and with your families.
Thank you,
Pastor Matt
