Explicit content ahead – American Idols: Sex

parental_advisory__supa_tight_ua84Church family (especially parents),

For the next two Sundays (Aug. 3 and 10) we turn to another American Idol: Sex.

We will walk through Proverbs 5 and 1 Cor. 6:12-20 over the next two weeks. I will keep in mind younger ears. And yet, I know it will be difficult to discuss this important subject in our country and culture without using expressions like “sex,” “premarital sex,” “adultery,” “pornography,” “illicit sex,” and the like.

You might want to talk with your kids in advance and be prepared to discuss these subjects in your home during the upcoming weeks.

This material is heavy; pray for me to speak truth, hope, forgiveness, repentance, and redemption.

Thank you,
Pastor Matt

When a newspaper posed the question, ‘What’s Wrong with the World?’ the Catholic thinker G. K. Chesterton reputedly wrote a brief letter in response:

‘Dear Sirs:

I am.

Sincerely Yours,

G. K. Chesterton.’

Big Idea:  Humbly hand your powers over to God or they will be hijacked for God’s purposes.

Pastor Post: July 17, 2014

church-newsThe Pastor Post is a regular update from Pastor Matt with a brief meditation as well as information on upcoming events in the life of Cornerstone Church.

July 17, 2014

Dear Church Family,

I want to express again the Proctor’s gratitude for the four week sabbatical. The four weeks gave us fresh perspective on the priorities God has for us. We’re deeply grateful to be back serving, and we are very excited to worship with everyone this Sunday. It really is a beautiful thing to be able to worship with God’s people.

Things to note…

1) Construction progress: Our work teams are back up and running on Thursday nights (5-9PM) and Saturday mornings (8AM-12PM). Come for an hour or the whole block of time. We’ll probably be back there up to Labor Day to finish all the framing before the dry walling can be done by professionals. See Greg Dryden’s email for different ways you can help:

2) The elders are praying and developing our 2014-2015 ministry theme and priorities. We hope to unveil where we think the LORD is leading sometime in mid-late August.

3) There will be a membership class immediately following the worship service this Sunday, July 20. If you’ve been attending Cornerstone Church approximately 5-6 months and want more information about what it means to be a partner in ministry, stick around after church. A lunch will be provided.

It’s good to be back.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Matt

Help construct our Sanctuary!

BuildCornerstone Church News:

We are making a lot of progress but need more help completing the construction of our new Sanctuary, nursery, and children’s church rooms.

For the next several Thursday nights (5:00 – 9:00 PM) and Saturday mornings (8:00 – 12:00 AM) we will be working to complete the project.  Workers are likely needed from, Now, to Labor Day.  As we are different parts of the body of Christ (some are hands, feet, eyes, ears), so too are the laborers needed for this project.  Skills are appreciated but not necessary.  Let me know how you would like to help, and I will coordinate efforts.

If you can help, here are some of the areas to serve:

  • Bring food to share with the workers
  • Broom sweep the work areas
  • General helper to hand tools or supplies to others on a ladder
  • Bring a hammer, drill, pry bar, tape measure or other small carpentry tools
  • Install wood and steel stud wall framing
  • Install insulation for sound proofing the walls
  • Sort six pallets of 18” carpet squares into good, fair, and poor quality
  • Simply show up, and we’ll find something meaningful for you to do
  • Pat someone on the back and provide words of encouragement
  • Pray for safety (we are almost injury free, praise God)

There’s no child care, but they can play foosball or hockey while you help.  Otherwise, 10 years or older is probably the age limit for helpers in the back room.

It’s work, but we actually are having a lot of fun and camaraderie.  Feel free to come help once or every time.

Thank you,

Greg Dryden
