A small note will be attached with information about our church and about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. More info here: http://cornerstone-marion.org/2012/10/30/time-change-outreach-to-community/
Oh, and please remember to set back your own clocks one hour this coming Saturday evening; it’s always nice to fall back and gain that extra hour of sleep.
See you Sunday,

Time Change Outreach to Community…

We will be well rested for church and the business meeting this coming Sunday as we fall back to Standard time. On Saturday, November 3 we are planning a small, low intimidation factor Outreach to some of our neighbors in Marion. I have 128 9-volt batteries for smoke detectors and change time reminders to show love and care for some of our neighbors in Marion. I need people to:

* Assemble packets with battery and reminder sheet
* Pass out packets

I thought we would go door to door in the mobile home park behind K Mart and the mobile homes near the Church Office. You can just bless people with the gift or you may be led to converse about spiritual things. Let the Holy Spirit lead you. If you’d rather go around your own neighborhood that is fine, too.

If you are willing and able to participate meet at the Olson’s House: 945 Parkview Dr, Marion at 1 PM. Put in as much time as you are able. The more people the faster it will go.

Thanks,

Jeff Olson

Pastor Post: October 25, 2012

The Pastor Post is a bi-monthly update from Pastor Matt with a brief meditation as well as information on upcoming events in the life of Cornerstone Church.

October 25, 2012

Dear Church Family,

I’m regularly reminded of the joy it is to serve as your pastor. You are dear people. Thank you for your love, prayers, and support both personally and corporately as we seek to know Christ and make Him known.

I’ve been meditating on two passages lately.
(1) NIV  John 12:24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.  I know that as a church and as individuals we desire to see the kingdom advance. Jesus says the way the kingdom advances is through death. We die to our selfish desires. We die to our fleshly pursuits. We give up our time, talent, and treasure. Just as the Son of Man gave his life away, we too are inivited to give our lives away so that there will be a great harvest.
(2) NIV  Matthew 23:23 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices–mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law–justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.  God’s heart is for justice, mercy, and faithfulness. Certainly, we are called to tithe, but we can do such things and not have love (as 1 Cor. 13 tells us and the end result is nothing). My invitation and challenge to you is to make sure your personal spiritual growth is dedicated to developing justice, mercy, and faithfulness. May the mark of our lives be love, not Bible knowledge or outward religious performance. Let’s be Micah 6:8 people: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (NIV).

A Few Announcements:

A thank you! We recently received this message from Sam Henson’s mom, Molly and the rest of the family: “Dear Cornerstone, Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers and plant that you sent in honor of our Bob, also known as Whitefield. Thanks also, for your prayers and the love you have shown to Sam these past years.”

Spiritual Life Retreat: Please pray for the 15 people involved in the Fall 2012 Spiritual Life Retreat this Friday and Saturday. Pray for them and for their families in their absence. Pray for our speaker and worship leader. Pray for spiritual rest and growth. Pray this retreat would be bring blessings for our whole body.

Sunday November 4 Annual Business Meeting: At Lowe Park 12:00 Pot Blessing followed by annual business meeting at 1:00.  Bring a main dish to share, and a salad or dessert.  Utensils and drinks will be provided

Cornerstone Apparel: We will be taking orders for Cornerstone t-shirts and polo shirts beginning this Sunday October 28 and November 4. More information and sign-ups will be in the lobby before and after church those Sundays.

Operation Christmas Child Boxes – How to get started: 1. Stop by the table in the lobby, sign up and get a plastic shoe box. 2. Decide whether your box will be for a boy or girl and what age range.  3. Fill it with gifts.  Gift suggestions are listed in the brochure.  4. Include a $7 donation to cover shipping.  5. Bring it back to church by November 11th.

Serving with you,
Pastor Matt

Friends,

A few quick announcements:

1) We have new CORNERSTONE APPAREL (Christmas has come early!): We will be taking orders for Cornerstone t-shirts and polo shirts beginning this Sunday the 21st.

The t-shirts (short sleeve) are available in youth to adult sizes and will cost about $10 each.  They will follow the same color scheme as the polo shirts.  Women’s short sleeve dry-blend polo shirts will be $16 for sizes S-XL and $19 for 2XL-3XL.  They will be light blue with a navy blue embroidered Cornerstone logo.  Men’s short sleeve dry-blend polos will be navy blue with a white embroidered logo and will also be $16 for S-XL and $19 for 2XL-5XL.  The dri-blend has more of a cotton feel.  There will also be a men’s cotton long sleeve polo option for $21 & $24.  We will have samples available to assist in sizing choices.  If you prefer a polo for your youngster, we can make those arrangements as well.  They really are sharp-looking and would make a great gift!

3) This Sunday is Communion Sunday. We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. If you are unfamiliar with how you should prepare yourself to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, you can read more here: http://mattproctor.blogspot.com/2012/10/how-to-prepare-yourself-for-lords-supper.html After the service, there is no listed location for McCornerstone. Rather, we hope that individuals and families will gather in smaller groups in homes and restaurants.

4) Sunday November 4 Annual Buisness Meeting: 12:00 Potblessing followed by annual business meeting at 1:00.  Bring a main dish to share, and a salad or dessert.  Utensils and drinks will be provided.

Thanks friends!

Pastor Post: October 10, 2012

The Pastor Post is a bi-monthly update from Pastor Matt with a brief meditation as well as information on upcoming events in the life of Cornerstone Church.

October 10, 2012

Dear Church Family,

One of the three major goals for this year is that each person in our church would be using their gifts to serve others in the body. We believe one major aspect of being a life-giving friend in God’s family is using our time, talent, and treasure for the benefit of others.

We currently have dozens of you regularly serving. Thank you! You are loving people, meeting needs, and using what God has given you to be a blessing to others. You are doing what 1 Peter 4:10 calls us to: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (NIV).

For those of you still looking for a place to serve or if you’d like to serve in a new way, I encourage you to seek out the various ministry leaders in our church. We often need nursery works (so Kim Schildroth would be glad to speak with you). We often need help setting up and tearing down our Sunday morning worship space (if interested, talk to John Stuelke and Tony Weber). We’re always looking for warm faces to greet people and welcome new visitors (if you’d like to get on the schedule, talk to Sue Frederick).

There are a myriad of ways to serve the body so don’t feel constrained by the just the Sunday morning opportunities. If there’s a need, go meet it. Visit the hurting, open your home to the stranger (even your strange pastor), take care of the sick, feed the poor, and the like. You don’t need the approval of me or anyone else to love people and serve others. Oh, and if there’s a ministry area you’d like to develop that we’re not currently offering, please contact any of the elders.

I hope each of us experience the joy this year of serving others. May we never forgot the model of our Savior: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

Upcoming Events:

Friday Night Bonfire, October 12: Please join us for a potluck and bonfire at the Schultz’s home on Friday, October 12th, 5:00-??. The Schultz’s will provide paper/plastic wear, water, pulled pork and stuff for S’Mores. Add to that as you feel led. Come fellowship with us either way! Bonfire, Capture The Flag, Volleyball, Trampoline, playhouse for the little ones, indoor play area as well. If you want to bring along a guitar and lead some praise songs around the fire, great! We’re starting early, but please drop in when you can! Contact Garry or Jacalyn for questions.

October 14 6:00: An Evening of Worship & Prayer will be held October 14, 2012 from 6-7:30 pm at New Covenant Bible Church for all believers in Linn County. This event is hosted by the Linn County Association of Evangelicals and Serve the City. More info http://servethecity.org/events.htm

Communion Sunday and McCornerstone: For many years we have gone out each Sunday at a local restaurant or park as a church family. We plan to continue this in 2012-2013, but starting in October we are changing what we do for McCornerstone on Communion Sundays (usually the 3rd Sunday of the month). On the 3rd Sunday of the month, no restaurant location will be listed for McCornerstone. Instead, we would like individual friends and families to choose to fellowship in smaller groups in individual homes, local restaurants, etc. Quality friends take quality time and we want to give you an opportunity to take the fellowship into your living room or individual pizza booth. We’ll remind you of this in future weeks. But keep in mind October 21 will be the first Sunday to invite others out to a more intimate meal together.

Baby Shower, Tuesday October 23:  Ladies, you are invited to attend a baby shower to bless the McCreary’s.  The shower will be held at Lesia Stuelke’s home in Center Point at 7:00 p.m.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Matt
