December 4, 2011: John 1:3-5 “Too Good to be True?”

November 27, 2011: John 1:1 “An Undomesticated Jesus”

Big Idea:  An undomesticated Jesus demands our uninhibited allegiance.

“Woe to the person who smoothly, flirtatiously, commandingly, convincingly, preaches some soft, sweet something which is supposed to be Christianity! Woe to the person who makes miracles reasonable. Woe to the person who betrays and breaks the mystery of faith, distorts it into public wisdom, because he takes way the possibility of offense…Oh the time wasted in this enormous work of making Christianity so reasonable, and in trying to make it so relevant.” Soren Kierkegaard

This is the first of 5 sermons Pastor Matt Proctor will be giving as we look in John 1:1-18 during Advent 2011. You can get some more info by clicking here.

November 13, 2011: Genesis 11:1-9 “Seeking Glory”

Big Idea:  Because God exists, we must appropriately respond to Him.

November 6, 2011: Genesis 9 “A Life of Mercy in a Fallen World”

Big idea:  God’s mercy toward fallen sinners is to be extended by His children to other fallen sinners.

Or as Jesus taught us, “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:32-36, English Standard Version)
