October 30, 2011: Genesis 6-8 “A Flood of Judgment and Mercy”

Big Idea:  Extravagant grace amid judgement leads to whole-hearted (complete) obedience.

So too, the structure of Genesis 6-8 points to Jesus!

  1. The LORD chooses one man to be saved by grace. (6:1-8)
  2. The LORD chooses one man to save the world through obedience. (6:9-7:24)
  3. The LORD chooses one man’s family to renew the world. (8:1-22)
In Christ, we have grace incarnate. In Christ, his obedience brings salvation to the world. In Christ, a new family is made to bring life, hope, and healing to thew world.

October 23, 2011: Genesis 4-5 “Wanderers or Worshippers”

Big Idea:  Abel’s blood calls for justice.  Jesus blood calls for forgiveness

Preaching outline:

  • Worship without faith brings destruction (Genesis 4:1-8).
  • Judgment without faith brings expulsion (Genesis 4:9-16).
  • Life without faith brings corruption (Genesis 4:17-5:32).

“God does NOT curse the woman or the man.  The serpent is cursed and the ground is cursed.  For the woman, there will be pain and for the man there will be toil.” – Matt Proctor

Big Idea:  Humanity was created to have significance from and access to God.

October 9, 2011: Genesis 3:1-13 “Glorious Ruins, Part 1”

Big Idea:  The loss of trust is the loss of life.

“Sin is an inward, spiritual breech of trust in God’s character and His word that results in active disobedience. ” – Bruce Waltke

Please note:  Due to technical difficulties, the first ten minutes of this message is missing.

October 2, 2011: Genesis 2:18-25 “God’s Designs for Marriage”

Big Idea:  Marriage is designed to point people to Jesus and the Gospel.  It is to reflect God’s glorious grace.

One quote from Pastor Matt Proctor’s sermon: “It should blow your mind that a perfect God has come to cleave with sinful people!”
