May 14, 2014
Dear friends and family,
Thanks for a great season of ministry the past several weeks. I was personally blessed by all the work, ideas, and creativity that went into the Christianity 101 series and the “Intimacy, Relationships, and Sexuality” retreat. So too, thank you to all the small group leaders, youth group leaders, Sunday morning servants and retreat support staff! Your labors are not in vain.
Let me give you a heads up on the next few weeks of ministry leading into the summer:
The Hesses are coming this Sunday May 18: Eric and Miriam Hesse are going with Reach Global (the missionary arm of the Evangelical Free Church of America) to Berlin, Germany as missionaries. We will get to hear about their ministry, hear Eric preach the Word, and eat a meal with them this Sunday. Please consider supporting them financially. We’ll take a special offering for them on May 25 to help them raise necessary funds.
Church Meal and Meeting this Sunday May 18: Stick around after the service for a meal from 11:45AM-1PM. We’ll then have a congregational meeting starting around 1PM. There will be discussion on the building progress, Pastor Matt’s Sabbatical, and a few church family issues.
American Idols starts May 25 – No, I’m not going to sing! Starting May 25 into early August, we will be having a sermon series called “American Idols.” An idol is any good thing that gets turned into the ultimate thing. We worship what we think will make us happy. Sadly, too many people worship money, sex, and power and all other kinds of good things that can never be ultimate things. This summer we’ll look for hope and freedom from false gods…we’ll look for hope and freedom through Jesus.
Elder Retreat June 2-3 – Please pray for the spiritual overseers of our church family as they take 36 hours to pray, reflect over the past year, and set a ministry direction for the 2014-2015 ministry year.
Blessings,
-Pastor Matt
