church-newsThe Pastor Post is a regular update from Pastor Matt with a brief meditation as well as information on upcoming events in the life of Cornerstone Church.

September 11, 2014

Dear Church family,

The 13th anniversary of 9-11 brings all kinds of emotions to me. But it also brings up this important conversation of Jesus during his earthly ministry:

NIV  Luke 13:1-5 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them–do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

Some implications we must consider for our lives today:

1) Atrocities strike people every century, every decade, and every day.

2) This is not necessarily because someone is more sinful than another; sadly, it is the reality we all are subjected to in this fallen world.

3) Even in such a vulnerable world, there is hope beyond this world for all who repent of theirs sins and turn to follow after God.

4) All tragedies, and even small frustrations, remind us that our lives and this world are in desperate need of redemption.

I pray that as you meditate on this anniversary, you would be led to repent personally and pray unceasingly for the worlds around you–for your home, work, neighbors, and nations.

Announcements:

Bible Reading Plan: Please join the dozens of folks who have already committed to reading the Bible daily. We’re only 1 week in, so if you are behind or late to the game, just start reading from where we are today. You can download the chart here: https://cornerstone-marion.org/wordpress/docs/Reading_Guide_Fall2014.pdf

Bible Discussion Group for Women: There is a women’s Bible Discussion Group for women from 10 to 11am on Monday mornings at the church building. If you are newer to Cornerstone or are interested in investigating the Bible with other women, this is for you! There is no preparation needed; we will simply read and discuss questions around a passage from the book of John each week.

Women of Cornerstone, Save the Date: Coffee, light refreshments, and informational meeting about upcoming ministry events for women on Monday, September 15th 7-9PM at The Warehouse (a.k.a “the church building”).

Our 2014-2015 Vision:  Our theme this year is “In the Word for our Worlds.” We desire to be transformed by the Word of God so that we can be agents of transformation in the worlds God has put it–particularly at home, at work, with our neighbors, and out to the nations. More information on our 2014-2015 vision can be seen by downloading and printing this informational brochure: https://cornerstone-marion.org/wordpress/docs/2014_15_Vision.pdf

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Matt
