Our key passage for this unit is Ezekiel 11:19-20:
19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. 20 Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
I’ve appreciated Pastor Matt’s sermons on Ezekiel, as I’m sure you have too. The imagery in this book is absolutely amazing, but what is more amazing is how the gospel pours out of the Old Testament prophets. As we dive into the exile in this unit and read from Jeremiah and Ezekiel, try to keep an eye on the gospel message. We are promised a new spirit, a new heart, and a new relationship with God. What GREAT NEWS!
This week Jeremiah finds out that God has had a plan for him from before he was born. And God has a plan for us as well. His plan is to bring us to himself through Jesus. Talk to your kids this week about how they were born. Maybe you have a neat birth story to remind them of. Then tell them about God’s plan for them. Tell them how Jesus came to give them life, and that by faith in Him they can live in eternity.
