Dear Church Family,

A few days ago my backyard chickens finally laid an egg. 6 months of waiting finally produced. Life and ministry often feel like a long waiting game. We put in effort, prayer, and multiple acts of love, but we see little fruit. We have noble hopes and godly dreams, but none of them seem to work out. Older kids walk away from Jesus. Marriages hit rough patches. The hunger for the Word dries up. The sense of heaven fades.

At these critical times, we may be tempted to find an exit. Maybe we want to join the ranks of the ex-evangelicals or the ex-Christian. Into these moments, I hold to two hopeful passages.

First, I think of Peter in John 6: From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:66-69)

So too Paul’s exhortation in Galatians 6:9: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

To whom shall we go…a harvest is coming. Two truths that hold us fast when life doesn’t seem to work.

A few quick announcements:
#1: Please plan to join our family meal and meeting on November 7 after church (more details coming).

#2: Please check out my most recent pastor encouragement video: https://youtu.be/9sIzGFivIJs

#3: Sorry for the weird sanctuary light issue on Sunday. We had a few lights go bad so we ordered some new ones early this week. Tony W. helped with a temporary solution so it won’t be so dark this week.

If I can support you, pray for you, or walk beside in anyway, remember I count it a sweet privilege to pastor this church. Know that you have a fantastic team of elders who feel just the same way. We want to walk with you.

Under grace,

Pastor Matt
