Pastor Post: April 16, 2014

101The Pastor Post is a regular update from Pastor Matt with a brief meditation as well as information on upcoming events in the life of Cornerstone Church.

Dear friends and family,

Rejoice greatly, shout for victory, the King comes. (Zechariah 9:9a)

The King came as a human, born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life, healed the sick, and set captives free. He spoke peace to those at enmity with Him. He brought estranged sons and daughters back home into a relationship with the living God. His mission of mercy angered the ruling religious leaders and threatened the standing power brokers. And so the King was killed. Above his object of torture was written “King of the Jews.”

Understandably, his motley crew of followers fled at his death. With hopes dashed and dreams destroyed, they had nowhere to go but into hiding. Just imagine the sorrow, the confusion, the angst. What just happened? How could joy be sapped up so quickly?

But then, 3 days later, on an early Sunday morning, the King of the Jews rose from the dead in a body never to die again. The King rose to rule and reign over a kingdom of peace, hope, mercy, and reconciliation. All are invited, and all who come are received. One day, the King will return to receive His people and finish off his foes. Rejoice greatly, shout for victory, the King comes.

Easter Sunday at The Warehouse (a.k.a. our church building): We have a 9:15AM brunch and a 10am Easter Service. Christianity 101 launches this Sunday!

New Song for Palm Sunday and Easter

Take some time to learn this new song we’ll be singing Palm Sunday and Easter…

“Intimacy, Relationships, and Sexuality” – Church Retreat (May 9-10)

This spring’s Spiritual Life Retreat will be Friday evening May 9th and Saturday May 10th(8:30am-5pm). Our theme is “Intimacy, Relationships, and Sexuality”. The retreat is for all people ages 13 and up. Teaching times will focus on God’s original design for intimacy, the effects of the fall on human sexuality, and how Christ brings hope and healing to our relationships by His redeeming love.

While participants will not be asked to share personal thoughts/experiences at any time, those who so choose may speak one-on-one or anonymously submit questions to the individuals who will share their journeys during one of the gender-specific sessions.

Again, this treat is for ALL people, married and unmarried, who want to learn more about God’s design for intimacy, relationships, and sexuality. Retreat content will be relevant to many life situations including those who are preparing for marriage, married couples, those who have sinned sexually, those who have been hurt by another’s sexual sin, victims of sexual abuse, and those who wish to grow in their understanding of relationships in the Christian life.

We invite you to be a part of this weekend of healing and growth. Watch for registration information coming soon. Guests are welcome, so feel free to invite those you think might benefit from the weekend. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with Pastor Matt or Carrie Proctor.

Christianity 101 – Starts April 20th!

101“When is a good time to bring someone to church who doesn’t know much about God?”

“Could you do a series of messages specifically designed for those new to Christianity or unfamiliar with Christianity?”

So, I’ve got enough questions like these the past several months to nudge me to something about it.

Thus, we are planning a 4-Week Sermon Series (called “Christianity 101”) beginning Easter Sunday that will walk through the ABCs of Christianity. So, start inviting your family and friends to Easter and the 3 following Sundays.

Here is the lineup of upcoming messages:

April 20: Why Easter?

April 27: Who is God?

May 4: Where is joy?

May 11: What about Jesus?

Hope to see you at 10AM each week at The Warehouse during this new series.
