Pastor Post
Update: (7/11/2024)
Church family,
This Sunday two newer Christians will profess their faith through Baptism. The LORD instituted two core practices to mark His people. The Lord’s Supper celebrates our ongoing participation in the New Covenant. Baptism symbolizes our entrance into the kingdom by being born again by the Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. These are God’s gifts for God’s people. They not only build up the individual believer but preach the good news to every watching eye. The Puritans called the sacraments “the visible word.” We see in physical signs the gospel–the washing of Christ, the feeding by Christ, the renewal by Christ, the saving by Christ. This is why we receive baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We don’t self-commune or self-baptize; we accept them from the church, from one generation to the next. I look forward to celebrating both of these ordinances on Sunday with you. May God use them to nourish us in the faith.
Two action items of note:
#1: Act now to provide school supplies for Marion kids. Contact Shari Funck at 319-533-8929 (text or call) to get a list of supplies for a specific student. Or sign up in the church foyer on Sunday. Or drop a bonus offering in the box this Sunday or give online denoting “Backpack Drive.” https://ccmarion. churchtrac.com/give
#2: Act now to send in any advance questions for the Tough Questions Q&A this Sunday at 11AM. I will try to answer any theological, cultural, or sticky question from God’s Word. You can email me questions or text them to me at: 319.423.9307. We will hold this Tough Questions opportunity this Sunday July 14 and on Sunday July 21.
Rest in the gospel; it’s news of God saving!! (Hallelujah)
In Christ,
Pastor Matt
