[The Church Is] (10/24/2024)
Cornerstone family,
The church is a lot of things: the bride and body of Christ. The church is the light of the world and the salt of the earth.
Another way to see the gathered church is that we are a war hospital. You know those makeshift tents a few miles from the front line of battle. The main goal of such hospitals is to treat wounds and send soldiers back to fight. Every Christian is at war. Our enemy is not those with flesh and blood–not your boss, the person who votes for the wrong party, nor the inlaw that drives you up the wall. Rather, we take our fight against the spiritual powers of darkness. Our enemy includes lies, deception, and demonic strongholds in our world and soul. The church gathers to minister to one another, receive the solace of the gospel, and to be restored in order to to head back to war. We come in confessing what still ails us and corrupts our hearts. We ask for the medicine of God’s mercy. We drink in the tonic of truth. And then the church scatters to honor King Jesus and seek first His Kingdom. I look forward to our war hospital gathering this Sunday.
2 BIG EVENTS coming up for Cornerstone Church:
#1: 11AM Meal and 12PM MeetingSunday November 3: Join us for a church family potluck immediately after the service. Then, everyone should stay for the 12PM Congregational Meeting (members especially). We’ll celebrate God’s work the past year and pray for what lies ahead of us. We’ll vote on matters of budget, new members, and incoming leadership. We’ll say thank you to the dozens of servant leaders and volunteers that minister in and beyond Cornerstone Church.
#2: SAVE the DATE! – December 8 – Our 2nd Annual Christmas Party will be on Sunday night, December 8th beginning at 5:30pm. This event is designed to be a fantastic place to invite your family, work mates, neighbors and friends to introduce them to our church family. We’ll play tables and upfront games, sing classic Christmas carols, eat a delicious fried chicken meal around tables (in the sanctuary this year). The cost is $0 for you and your guests, but remember to RSVP on time. We ran out of seats last year.
Finally, keep praying for “your one” (bookmark attached). Maybe this is the best person to invite to the Christmas Party.
Love to you in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior,
Pastor Matt
