Church family,
**Quick reminder that our soup supper and prayer/worship service is moved to tomorrow Feb. 13th because of today’s weather. Come around 6PM to eat or just at 7PM to pray. We’re a little short on people bringing food and cleaning up. Please sign up here: https://www.mealtrain.com/potlucks/r971gw
A few months ago I shared the story of how the composer Johann Sebastian Bach added the initials SDG (soli deo gloria – Latin for “To the Glory of God Alone”) at the end of all his compositions. What was news to me was that you can also find JJ (Jesu Juva – “Jesus help me”) on the first page of many of his works. Since then, I often write JJ at the top of my daily journal entries. I’m adding JJ to the top of my sermon notes. I’m trying to pray periodically throughout the day, “Jesus help me.” The longer I walk with Jesus the truer the hymn “I need Thee every hour” rings true. And the glorious news is that our Father loves to answer prayer. He is drawn to the needy and desperate. I pray we grow in our desperation; in so doing, I believe we’ll see more demonstrations of God’s glory, power, and love. May He move among us. SDG
Other key items of note:
Membership Class, February 23rd, 12:15PM-4PM. Sign up this Sunday so we have you accounted for the lunch. This is for those interested in membership; you are not committed to joining after you take the class.
The many servants of Cornerstone: Keep Matthew Smith (pastoral assistant) and the youth ministry in your prayers. Pray for Abbi Lackey (director of children’s ministry) and the team that invests each Sunday in our children. We have so many amazing servants and volunteers. So much gets done, I hardly can keep up with writing thank yous and expressing appreciation. Our heavenly Father sees your secret service and will reward you. I’m thrilled to pastor this church.
Finally, I wanted to thank you for the kind Christmas gifts you offered to the pastors this season. Your generosity is such an encouragement to me in ministry.
Until all have heard,
Pastor Matt
