Dear Church Family,

I attended the funeral of Johnse Bushlack yesterday at New Covenant Bible. Johnse is brother-in-law to David Sloan and uncle to Ryan, Dawn, Stacey, Zach, and Matthew. I walk away from that funeral with a few reflections. First, life is short–whether you only make it to 45 (like Johnse) or 90. We’re a mist that appears for a short while. Let us number our days in order to have a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12). Second, God can make beauty out of ashes (Isaiah 61). Yesterday, I know of many non-Christians that attended that funeral and heard about Christ’s salvation and the hope of eternal life for those who believe in Christ and repent of their sins. Students for which my kids pray were there. Adults for which Carrie and I pray were there. Who’s your one? Who are you praying would come to know the LORD Jesus? It’s often in moments of tragedy that God redeems for eternal purposes.

A look ahead to Cornerstone events:

Valuable Adult Sunday School Options:
  1. A Baptism and Lord’s Supper Class in Room 102 (this week only, 3/30): for those with questions or interest on baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
  2. The Unfinished Story: an overview of the mission of God from Genesis, through the Great Commission where Jesus challenges believers to go to our world today. (Room 101)
  3. A Women’s Precepts Study in Jeremiah in Room 112.
  4. 2 Corinthians in Worship Center
  5. Don’t forget to make sure your kids and youth receive instruction in the Word during the 11AM hour.

Germany Missions Giving Update: Over $10,000 of the needed $18,000 has come in for the Germany mission trip. This money will cover lodging, airfare, ministry supplies, and the travel needs of our team. Plane tickets are bought; team trainings are underway. Pray for these Cornerstone saints: Randy and Kim Pospisil, Brenda Kovatch, Laura Olson, Samuel Proctor, Jeff and Jayne Olson, and Atticus. Pray about giving online or in the offering box.

On Good Friday, April 18th, we’ll worship at Northbrook Baptist Church (1700 Boyson Rd NE, Cedar Rapids) at 6PM with the friends from Northbrook and Trinity Presbyterian. This is always a special gathering of remembrance. Our Resurrection Sunday service will be held at our normal 9:25AM worship time. (Please come early, sit close, and park far on that day to make room for visitors.) We’ve been praying all year for those who don’t know Jesus; now is the time to invite them to church.

**April 9th Congregational Prayer Meeting** – Outside of the worship gathering on the Lord’s Day, I believe the most important thing this church does is pray together. Skip your show, get a babysitter if you have to, block out this night, we’ll eat together at 6PM and gather in the worship center to pray, sing, and wait on the LORD together. Adults, youth, and kids are all welcome to join as the body seeks the Lord together. (Bonus: we have a weekly prayer gathering at 8:40AM in Room 103. You can come and go from 8:40-9:10. You can join in the prayer or just listen. O, that Jesus would look down from heaven with a smile, declaring, “Cornerstone is a house of prayer.”)

Starting next Friday, April 4th, Matthew and Patience Smith are starting a Young Adult Connect Group that will meet regularly for fun, social, and invite-a-friend events. The first event is a game night in their apartment. Let anyone in that 20s/30s sort of age range know that this Connect Group will be a great place to build friendships. Reach out to Matthew Smith with questions or to RSVP: 563.940.9662

I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday!!
