Facade Project
(4/10/2025)
Dear church family,
If you aren’t aware, we’ve had a team working on a possible design for the front facade. They’ve worked with an architect on a design and now have an estimate from a contractor. Please offer feedback and consider attending the leadership summit Monday or hear more about the potential project at the May 4th congregational meeting. Would you prayerfully consider how we might proceed as you read the following report from the design team. Thanks!

Hello Church Family.
The leadership of Cornerstone is praying about how to proceed on a big issue and we wanted to bring it to your attention.
For some years now our front facade has been in poor condition. The paint is faded. The gutters are bent. The brick on the front is breaking, and the planters are falling apart. In addition to not looking very nice, it is becoming a maintenance issue, with water damage inside the wall. Fixing it is a big job. We know a little more now about how big.
We worked with an architect who drew some plans for updating the front wall. We worked with a contractor who has tried to make careful estimates. The base estimate is $149K. There are many unknowns, such as the condition of our footings and the amount of damage inside the walls. If every unknown went in our favor the quote could be as low as $140K. If every unknown went against us it could be as high as $200K.
At the Leadership Summit meeting next week, and at the congregational meeting next month we plan to discuss this issue. Please think and pray, then come to the meeting to hear more details.
These are some of the more obvious questions we have discussed.
1. Is there anything we can do ourselves to make the cost lower? Yes, they have some smaller jobs we can take on, like demolition of the brick planter and repairing drywall around the windows. This could save us as much as $5K.
2. Would a different design be cheaper? We really like this design. The nicer entrance is a big improvement to the building. However, a design that simply tried to make the building look more like it was when new would still be in the $135K range.
3. How do we intend to pay for this project? We have some cash in reserve. We could take out a mortgage. We could ask for a special designated gift. Please consider how you feel about these things.
It would be a good time to share your thoughts with one of the Elders, including Pastor Matt or Pastor Gary. We would also love to talk with you about the details of the project.
