Brothers and sisters in Christ,

What makes Cornerstone tick? Why did Cornerstone begin serving Marion 25 years ago? Saints like Tony and Lisa Weber wanted to love their neighbors. They wanted to raise their kids to know and follow Jesus. They desired a local church that would faithfully teach God’s Word in order to be ready to face work on Monday, neighbors on Tuesday, and the unexpected challenges that would hit on Wednesday. The vision is simply this: Equipping all to engage God’s call. 28 year old moms need to be equipped to raise toddlers to fear the LORD. 69 year old retirees need God’s Word to guide them in grandparenting and getting older. High school sophomores need to be equipped to minister to their peers. Sunday after Sunday, week after week, Cornerstone exists to equip all people in all walks of life to engage in all the places God has put them.

Important church matters:

Pledge campaign ends July 13th – A church website and its front door are the first two things people see when visiting a church. I’m thankful that our website tells the world we love Jesus and want to help you to love Him too. We invested money and time to update the website a few years back to give it a fresh look. Now, we have the opportunity to update the front of our building, deal with overdue maintenance and water issues, and show a first time visitor just how much we appreciate a facility that allows us to gather together and worship our majestic and holy God. We’re $35,000 short in pledges to move forward with what the congregation hopes to achieve. Pray about joining the effort. Pray about giving a pledge, raising your pledge, or simply being a prayer warrior in this campaign. Fill out a pledge in advance (2025 Pledge Drive). Shoot an email to office@cornerstone-marion.org about your commitment. Or just drop off a pledge card on Sunday in the offering box. I’m thankful to serve such a generous church.

This Sunday (7/13) you have two options for the 11AM Sunday School hour (all other classes are in their midsummer break):
#1: Pastor Matt Q&A – Bring along any theological, ethical, or hot-button question or send them via email in advance. I’ll answer Q&A questions from 11-11:55AM July 13 & 20 in the Sanctuary.
#2: ESL School Ministry: Join this informational session on helping English-acquisition learners learn English and meet Jesus. God has called us to testify His greatness to the nations, and we have many peoples from many lands right here in Linn County who need help in learning English and in knowing Christ. Come and learn about how the CareNetwork, local churches, and other believers will start serving these people Fall 2025. Come get the info in Room 101 @11AM. They need prayer partners, weekly volunteers, and financial partners.

Joyce Hoobler took her last breath on this earth on Monday. Hallelujah that Jesus promised that though we die, those who believe in Him will live forever. Please pray for Dean Hoobler (husband of 69 years), Pastor Gary and Patsy, and all the other kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids as they both rejoice in the gift of Joyce and mourn her passing. A funeral is planned for Saturday 7/26 @11AM.

Finally, I start a short summer preaching series in the Book of Ecclesiastes this Sunday. Check out this very helpful summary video from the Bible Project:

Under grace,
