Pastor Post

9/25/2025

Dear Church family,

The expectation is palpable. Excitement flows through the room. Victory is just around the corner. But then Jesus says, “Wait in the city until you’ve been clothed in power” (Luke 24:48). This is just on the heels of the resurrection. Rome and Jerusalem could not slay King Jesus. Jesus is Lord of heaven and earth; all authority belongs to Him. Discipleship for all nations must be declared. And yet, don’t go…don’t go…yet. Jesus knows the disciples need the Holy Spirit. He knows human productivity is very different than spiritual fruitfulness. Wait for the LORD; I say it again, wait for the LORD.

In many ways, I feel similarly at the beginning of this new ministry year. I love the buzz on Sunday morning before and after church. I smile ear-to-ear when I look in and see Sunday School classes seeking Christ in His Word. I hear great stories coming out of small groups. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves….we must continually be clothed in power. And so, I’m thankful for some targeted prayer activities being put together by Pastor Gary and our pastoral assistant Matthew Smith. We’re taking a 3-month emphasis (October, November, December) to seek the LORD in prayer. Will you wait on the LORD with us? Will you pray for spiritual power?

Prayer Initiatives: Equipping all to engage God’s call requires the Spirit’s enabling and Christ’s blessing; so let’s seek the Lord together…
#1: Join us for a day of fasting and prayer on Wednesday October 1. If you’re able, fast breakfast and lunch and let’s all break the fast together at 6PM over a pancake supper. Bring some fruit, a small side, or dessert to go with our pancakes and sausage. If you can’t make the meal, join us from 7-8PM in worship and prayer in the sanctuary. Focus your prayers on asking God to help us equip disciples, engage our callings, and be a part of expanding Christ’s church through evangelism and church planting.
#2: Be on the lookout for weekly prayer emails from Pastor Gary or Matthew.
#3: Every Wednesday (October 8-December 17) there will be a half-hour prayer meeting over the noon hour (12:15-12:45PM). Join your fellow saints in prayer at the church building.
#4: We encourage every small group, family, and individual to dedicate a few more minutes each week to pray for Cornerstone Church. Pray we’d be faithful to God’s Word, courageous in our callings, and full of love before our God.

Other items of Note:
#1: Steeped in Love – Mother-Daughter Tea, Saturday 10/18/2025 from 9:30AM-11AM for girls ages 2-18 and any female role-model.
#2: Family meal and meeting – Sunday 11/2/2025 – Potluck after service, followed by congregational meeting.
#3: We’re currently collecting various soaps for the 29th Street Mission.
#4: Keep praying about the building/facade project. The bid process isn’t going as smoothly as hoped. Pray for favor in this affair and for Tim Messer, Carrie Proctor, and David Gardner as they navigate the details and advocate for our needs.

I’m thankful for this church.

It’s a privilege to pastor you.

Grateful,
Pastor Matt
