Pastor Post: The Complexities of Growth

4/6/2026

Dear Church family,

Cornerstone Church’s mission is this: Equipping All to Engage God’s Call.

Right now, large flat bed trucks are dropping off building supplies. Dillion Construction starts today on our remodeling project (new steel, new sign, new windows)!! For two months, we will navigate work trucks, construction crews, and various levels of disarray.

Simultaneously, a team of folks investigates if we should lease the two north bays of this facility for more youth ministries space, Sunday school classes, and office space.

New ministries launch this week for men (Monday ManDays, 6:30-8:30p starts tonight) and for seniors 55+ (Cornerstone Connections starts this Friday, 1:30-3:30PM).

Yesterday, we had the largest worship service in history. We celebrated two baptisms (BTW: right now, we plan to do more baptisms April 19, so reach out if you need to receive baptism). New faces show up each Sunday. A Vacation Bible School is planned for this summer (July 16-18). All the while, small groups press on, Sunday schools teach God’s word, and worship services are help to equip all to engage God’s call. Our callings are vast: the gospel in our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, serving local needs, and the Bible’s vision of reaching the nations for Jesus Christ.

I share all this for 3 reasons:
#1: Praise the Lord for a season of growth (Colossians 1:3-6). Churches do not always grow. We preach the gospel in season and out of season; the gospel always bear fruit, but there are times when you’re not seeing it.
#2: If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you do not fall (1 Cor. 10:12). Every good and perfect gift comes from God; we’re not strong in and of ourselves (2 Corinthians 3:5). Let us stay humble under God’s mighty hand.
#3: Pray for wisdom and unity for our body. I am quickly overwhelmed with the amount of ministry, decisions, and challenges in front of us. Likewise, your elders need the grace to lead with conviction and prudence. The ministry staff and amazing volunteer leaders constantly navigate decisions as well. Pray. Pray. Pray. Growing from a small church to a medium-sized church is not for the faint of heart. O Jesus, guide your church in holiness, humility, and brotherly love. Make us one as you and the Father are one.

Gratefully in your service,
Pastor Matt
